Retailers, \u00a0rejoice! Instagram has yet again announced new features that will make shopping directly on the platform easier for followers. \u00a0Everyone else, beware! What was once a dreamy aesthetic getaway to scroll through beautiful things can now hurt your wallet if you don’t practice self-restraint!<\/p>\n

What is Instagram Shopping?<\/h2>\n

Since the end of 2016, the app has been partnering with a selection of brands (Macy’s, Kate Spade NY, etc. by allowing them to add links directly on\u00a0their published photos.<\/p>\n

As of last week, Instagram Shopping, was made available to US apparel, jewelry and beauty retailers.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

Mary Beech, evp and marketing at Kate Spade New York, said in a statement\u00a0that it allows her customers \u201cto seamlessly tap and shop the product\u2014going from inspiration to information to purchase in just a few steps\u2014we\u2019re excited to see where the feature continues to take us.\u201d<\/p>\n

Areas for Improvement?<\/h2>\n

For the moment, its only a single photo, but videos and shoppable carousels are most likely the next updates this feature will see.<\/p>\n

The social media platform announced that\u00a0it’s “\u201cgiving businesses the power to create and tag a post with products directly from their iOS mobile phone. Once a business has a product catalog connected to their account, tagging a product is as simple as tagging a person in a post.\u201d<\/p>\n

Instagram\u00a0also announced that they will support retailers with behavioural data – how many people clicked on the shoppable items etc- in order to help them create more relevant content.<\/p>\n
