With her daughter, Jen focused on the notion that abstract art is created without a specific subject matter, emphasizing that stories and emotions can still be expressed through it. She then showed her paintings by Rothko, de Kooning, Kandinsky, and Pollock, while asking what she thought each picture was about. Before painting, ask your child how they are feeling, and encourage them to pick out colors that they think best represent these feelings. Then let them dribble the paint on a piece of paper, and encourage them to use brush strokes that best convey their sentiments.

Letters for Kids

© Miss Patina

Nostalgic for letters?
