Temperatures are dropping, days are getting shorter and the back-to-school excitement has already given way to people’s autumnal routine. Ultimately, this context calls for only one thing : A good cappuccino !

Fortunately, Montreal is full of charming cafés and independent bistros where you can stop for a well-deserved break or a velvety drink on the go. Whether you prefer muffled, animated, business or cozier atmospheres… The city has is a place for every taste !

The inevitable Café Olimpico

According to Brigand.ca, it’s simply impossible to make a list of Montreal’s best coffee shops without including Mile-End’s notorious Café Olimpico. Their latte is exquisite, their espresso worthy of Italy and their terrace, always drenched in sunlight, is the place of choice to serenely savor any of their specialties.

Café Gentile, a hidden treasure

The Chabanel neighborhood, Montreal’s fashion district, has gone through highs and lows these past few years, but one thing is everlasting : the popularity of Café Gentile ! Even if it looks quite ordinary from outside, some say it serves the best coffee in town. Marie-Josée from Sélections MJ went to investigate, and a single takeout cup was enough to conquer her !

Sugary sweets at Café Névé

Mée Reed from the wonderful blog Le Cahier just loves Café Névé, an obligatory halt in Montreal and even in Toronto, where it just opened a new shop. Calling their latte « deliiiicious », she also suggests you try their pineapple-avocado-spinach smoothie for a little healthy boost. Don’t forget to add one of their irresistible chocolate chip cookies to your order, you won’t get over them !

La Cornetteria, if the cold doesn’t bother you

Are you more of an iced-coffee type person ? Mayssam, author of Will Travel For Food blog, sure is ! She fell in love with Little Italy’s La Cornetteria’s iced latte, which is served with a side of espesso (not espresso !), an unctuous mousse invented by world-renowned Spanish chef Ferran Adrià for the Lavazza brand. It’s so good and rich that you can count it as a dessert.
