TikTok SEO: the new search engine

Today, generation Z has totally changed the way they search the internet. It is known that more than 40% of the users, being part of the generation Z, use TikTok as a search engine instead of Google.

 

What is SEO TikTok?

The SEO TikTok (Search Engine Optimization), aims to optimize the content, to appear in the proposals – here the “For You” of TikTok – of users who are your target.

For the moment, the engine is much less saturated than Google, and the application implements many affordable ways to optimize its referencing. 

TikTok has very recently changed its descriptions. Known for having to get straight to the point, and write as little as possible, today we can write up to 2,200 characters in the descriptions (against 300 before) of the videos that are published on the platform. This allows us to maximize the keywords in order to facilitate the referencing of your content.

Some tips (validated by TikTok) to optimize your profile and optimize your SEO very easily:

  1. Integrate keywords in the descriptions of your videos to optimize your content. But also in the description of your profile, so that it is proposed to the right target and highlighted by the algorithm.
  2. Communicating with your audience, through comments, but also through the question boxes available directly on the application, will also allow you to put forward your content to an audience receptive to messages.
  3. Use the right hashtags. Indeed short hashtags are trendy, but also saturated by mass use. It is better to use longer hashtags, i.e. hashtags composed of 3 words or more, to allow you to categorize your content and reach a target audience more easily.
  4. Drive traffic to your website. TikTok allows you to reach new people, so you should take advantage of it to link your TikTok referencing to your e-commerce website for example.
  5. Adding the link to your website will bring credibility to your profile, which will challenge the algorithm and put you in front.  The benefits of backlinks known for websites are also proven on TikTok.
  6. Overlay your text, using the video editing features. You can directly add text on your video, so it’s time to use keywords again. Using the words, the editing features will allow you to be spotted by the algorithm, categorize the content and therefore be highlighted to the right audience.

The right keywords are essential to optimize your content and your SEO. The relevant use of keywords, turns of phrases to describe your content as much as possible, will allow you to optimize your SEO on a specific theme and therefore address the right target.
