5 Tips to Write Catchy Headlines

Whether you are a blogger, a journalist or even a student, you know the importance of having a good headline. The first words are crucial in the reading of your article. A title is important, so take the time to write it so that your publication has the visibility it deserves. In this article, we’ll give you some tips that will help you write more impactful headlines.

–       Short and catchy. Ideally, a title should not be longer than 70 characters or 12 words maximum. A long headline can discourage your reader to actually read your article because your title will reveal too much and will not arouse the curiosity.

Example : Become a pro of social media

–       Answer a question.  Most people who use a search engine are looking for a solution to one of their problems or seek a solution to one of their need. Identify this need and offer the solution in your headline.

Example: How to write a catchy headline?

–       Lists. It is well known that everyone loves lists. Lists generate immediate interest among readers. Also, use a number in your title, it will give a “scientific” aspect and therefore a reliable aspect to the article.

–       Include your readers. Ask a question in the title is a good way to start a conversation. This works even better when you include the reader in your question.

Example: Do you know the mistakes to avoid when writing a headline?

–       Use keywords. In terms of SEO, the use of keywords allows search engines to better refer you and to reach a maximum of people. However, it is possible that you won’t see the results immediately. It is a long term process. To define your keywords, you can for example use KeywordTool.

Finally, one last tip: avoid clickbait titles (example: He entered a supermarket, what he will discover will surprise you). In general clickbaits do not offer what was promised in the title. Plus, you have good content, it would be a shame that it is read by the the wrong people. The use of an honest headline does not allow to have a high click rate every time, but at least the readers of your articles will be really interested in the subject.
