Montreal: 5 Coffee Shops in Villeray

Montreal’s lesser known Villeray is homely and family oriented. Jarry park, at the heart of it, is a favorite among neighborhood locals, who enjoy going ice-skating and sledding in the winter, or sharing picnics on warmer days. Regardless of season, these outings come hand in hand with coffee or hot chocolate breaks.

Here are 5 of the best Villeray coffee shops:

In addition to good coffee, Oui Mais Non offers varied light meals and snacks options (including the classic hummus and carrot). Like Instagrammer Juliette Crytes, you’ll find the terrasse to be an ideal place to feel neighborhood vibes, but during winter you’ll probably want to get cosy in the basement, where couches and books await. An emphasis is put on local products, and the pastries are from Arhoma, a Montreal bakery.

In the summertime, locals gather around the small window of this street corner coffee shop to order lemonade slushie, iced coffee and sparkling water, before sitting on the few benches around. On colder days, those feeling as adventurous as Instagrammer Maxim Garant and his friend sit outside with a warm italian espresso, while others prefer squeezing into the small and warm shop that has become a Villeray staple.

An italian coffee shop with a twist, classic brown espresso mugs are traded with bright orange ones at Ferlucci, where the decor is vintage and charming. The shop is owned by cousins Gianni and Megan, who opted to serve coffee from a Sicilian artisanal roaster – Italian pastries, pizza and orange Fanta are also available. Instagrammer Daniel Huynh found himself at Ferlucci for a jazz night recently !

Opened earlier this year, Pinocchio is a family business, already known for its italian espresso and charming terrasse -which will still be accessible during winter thanks to a good old pile of blankets and a tempo shelter! Take a cue from Virginie, and enjoy a grilled cheese (or panini) with a latte. Bonus: everything cheaply priced!

Larue & Fils

Located a few feet away from Jarry metro, the bright Larue & Fils Jarry is a second location, where stools and a lack of electricity sockets purposely encourage people to share a moment with friends, or a quick coffee break between errands. Instagrammer and graphic designer Olivier Charland made sure to stop by for a cuppa coffee!
