Your 101 guide to studying in Montreal

Because school is on again, and it rhymes (more or less) with routine : classes, homework, travel by metro, bus, car, evenings of procrastination…

When you start on the wrong foot, chances are that old habits take over. But for all the students who, like me, want to change them for the best at the beginning of each semester, it’s now or never. When going back to school, it’s important to have a schedule that allows you to exercise, study, and take some time for yourself each week.

Crème Mag has put together a little routine plan that will help you focus better and plan your weeks in Montreal. Here are some perfect cafés for studying, great places to move your body and relaxing abodes that will be useful during exam periods!

Great cafés for productivity…

To help you on your busiest days and/or improve your Instagram feed!

Café Parvis

If you are looking for a relaxed atmosphere for writing an essay or just a super bright place to enjoy a healthy meal, this café will please you for sure! The vintage decor has already attracted many students or business people for the short coffee break we all need… especially on Monday mornings, as shown by Instagrammer @juliettebelangerc!

Caravane Café

Not too big or too small, we sometimes forget about it, as it is not on a main street, but it is really nice and a perfect café for students! Their decor will make you feel at home and allow you to finish your mid-term work on time. Located just a few steps away from the University of Montreal, do not hesitate to go for a study session (or just order a latte…) like @maximedufourlapointe did.

And if you’re still not convinced that cafés are a good place to be productive, I suggest you take a look at the @coffeesesh Instagram account. Their inspirations of the moment will make you want to hop in a coffee shop and start working.

Time to move!

Because, otherwise, your brain might explode from all this homework!

Idolem Studio Yoga

Yoga is relaxing for the mind and stimulating for the body! For all those who falsely believe that yoga is only meditation, I suggest you try a hot yoga class at this studio… You will not be bored! Yoga is a good way to work on your body while stretching your legs after long days of studying. By the way, do plan a quick visit on @yoga_girl‘s Instagram account from time to time : it will give you the motivation you need, and I guarantee it will make you want to try it out!

Mount Royal

There is nothing better than a hike in the forest to relax and unwind! Montreal’s Mount Royal is a good alternative to the indoor gyms we all know. With many stairs to climb and a lot of pretty slopes, you will be able to work your cardio while enjoying spectacular views of the city! And for those lucky enough to travel the world, go take a look at @ashruns100‘s account for more exterior training and breathtaking landscapes.

Skiing & snowboarding

Why not take a full weekend to enjoy the outdoors and trails? Something new this year : you can now buy a season pass for several ski resorts all over the province… Isn’t it wonderful? Bromont, Saint-Bruno, Saint-Sauveur, Orford… It is more likely that you’ll be gone for more than a weekend. And if you have the pleasure of stumbling upon @reistiegler‘s Instagram gallery, you will only have one desire : to travel in search of the world’s most beautiful slopes.

A moment to chill…

It will be your favorite moment of the day!

A hot bath at home

There is nothing better than a weekly bubble bath. One rarely finds time to run the water and plunge in it for a few hours… But it is not to be overlooked! Some scented oils can be used to help relax muscles or just to be enfolded by their delicious smell. For even more originality, get some bubble bath from Lush, like @clairelladaniella! It is guaranteed that you will not want to leave the tub.

StrØm Spa

The best for last. For a complete session of relaxation and money well invested, this spa will take away all the stress that builds up day by day. The package that gives access to the thermal baths is affordable for everyone, especially if you choose to go in the evening and/or on weekdays. This is a good way to have fun and start the week off right in a beautiful setting, as shown by @lesbellesfolies.

Now that you’ve made a list of things to do this semester, there are plenty more places that you can discover. Just choose the ones that suit you best! May this school year be better than the last!

Ariane RoyBy : Ariane Roy

She may look like your classic white girl, strolling through Montreal with her Starbucks cup in hand, but that’s just grazing the surface. With her capacity of conveying her thoughts on a piece of paper, Ariane is secretly hoping to infuse your life with a little bit of her taste for the fine things, her dream of wandering the world and her ability to love. Oh, and coffee. She loves coffee.
